The Story Behind This Site

Hi. I am Lisa Smith and I am genuinely glad you found this site.

HomeDecorsInspo started because of my own home. Not a showroom. Not a magazine spread. My actual home with its awkward corners, cold bedrooms, and living rooms that looked fine in photos but felt wrong every single morning I walked into them.

I spent over twelve years figuring out why some rooms feel instantly right and others never quite do. I tried things that failed completely. I made expensive mistakes I wish someone had warned me about. And slowly, through real trial and real error in real rooms, I started to understand what actually works.

That is what this site is built on. Not theory. Not trends copied from someone else. Real experience from real homes.

A Little About My Decorating Journey

I have lived in very different kinds of homes over the years.

A large family home where I learned about scale, proportion, and how a single furniture placement change can shift the entire energy of a room. A small apartment where I learned that limitations are actually one of the best creative teachers you will ever have. A cozy hometown family home that taught me everything I know about warmth and comfort.

Each of those spaces taught me something different. And every lesson is somewhere in these articles.

One moment I still think about happened in my small apartment. I had spent three weekends rearranging the living room trying to make it feel right. Nothing worked. Then one afternoon I moved a single lamp from one corner to another. The whole room changed in about forty seconds. That was the moment I understood that good decorating is not about buying more things. It is about understanding how light, scale, and placement work together.

I have personally decorated and redesigned more than six different homes across different sizes, budgets, and styles over the past twelve years. Every one of them taught me something I share here.

What I Write About and Why

Most home decor content shows you beautiful rooms and tells you to copy them. That has never felt honest to me.

Beautiful rooms in magazines are styled for cameras. Nobody actually sits on those perfectly arranged cushions. Nobody actually cooks in those spotless kitchens.

Real homes have real people in them. Real budgets. Real constraints. Real life happening every single day.

That is the kind of decorating I write about.

I write about ideas that work in a small apartment just as well as a large house. I write about color combinations that look good at 7am when the morning light comes through a north facing window, not just at golden hour. I write about the mistakes I made so you do not have to repeat them.

I also stay current. I research Pinterest trends weekly, follow leading home design publications, and study what is actually working in real homes before recommending anything here. Trends matter only when they serve real comfort and real life.

New ideas are published regularly every week so there is always something fresh to explore.
